Let's Talk About Presentation of Topics! We have a CLASSROOM that's a stimulating environment. The students and the teacher feel comfortable and safe, physically and emotionally. Our CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT system is set up and running smoothly. The students come in and arrange themselves and in two minutes we are ready learn the next topic. There are many Instructional Strategies. In its GLOSSARY OF INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES this website lists 875 strategies and methods. I think Cooperative Learning works well because it fulfills the human need for interaction with other people. I also believe that an Integrated Curriculum can be a good strategy if implemented sensibly. I am very flexible. I do believe in routines, but I am not dogmatic. Routines and structure are liberating! When things run smoothly and automatically, mental energy is freed to be devoted to learning. I will describe a typical day in each of several subjects at the high school level. Math Physics and Science Social Studies ESL As I mentioned in the CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT page, I believe strongly in Cooperative Learning. I believe in integrating games and contests into daily learning activities to maintain interest and motivation. Group games are best because everyone can play and win, not just the academic stars. As long as it's fun, educational, and emotionally safe for everyone, games in the classroom are great. They could be modeled on Jeopardy, The Weakest Link, Survivor, or whatever the students and teacher find to be fun and appropriate.
